Heads of doctoral studies take care of PhD students with regard to formal matters. The head of doctoral studies also provides scientific supervision over students from the very beginning of the studies. The supervision includes, among other things, assistance with finding subjects for doctoral theses by students and finding scholars that specialise in the chosen field and may become supervisors in the future. All matters related to the admission process, appraisal of the students’ progress in studies, and social and financial matters are handled by the Dean’s Office of the studies.
The direct support of the doctoral student’s efforts and supervision over the research work is, in turn, performed by a scientific coordinator who is an independent academic chosen by the student and a target supervisor of the PhD thesis.
